Countdown to UNDER THESE RESTLESS SKIES: Day 4 Excerpt

Under These Restless Skies will be released on February 20, and every day until then, I'll be posting a small excerpt. You can check out the book's blog here, including more excerpts and information on the Tudor historical characters in the story, and the legend of the selkies on which the story is based.

Today's Excerpt:

“You are not a stranger, m’lord,” she replied, unwrapping the rope from around Will’s chest. “You are the king’s fool, Master Somers.”
That was somewhat unexpected. “Verily, I had not imagined I would be so well known.”
The woman stepped back, coiling her rope over her arm. “They call you the ‘Poor Man’s Friend,’ m’lord, you and your wife.”
Will knew that gossip about the court was one of the English’s favorite pastimes, but it was still somewhat of a surprise to find himself mentioned aside the jeweled names of the courtiers. But if he was ever to have a title, he thought, Poor Man’s Friend was one he could wear with pride.
