Countdown to UNDER THESE RESTLESS SKIES: Day 13 Excerpt

Under These Restless Skies will be released on February 20, and every day until then, I'll be posting a small excerpt. You can check out the book's blog here, including more excerpts and information on the Tudor historical characters in the story, and the legend of the selkies on which the story is based.

Today's Excerpt:

“And my daughter,” the king sighed. He shook his head. “When I see her, she does naught but insist upon her mother’s case. I cannot enjoy her company with the way she blathers on. Mary has always been a dutiful, affectionate girl. How did she become so willful?”
The answer slipped from Will’s lips unbidden. “Perhaps she takes after her father, Your Majesty.” His eyes widened at his own words, and the breath stopped in his throat as the king stared at him, slack-jawed.

And then the king burst into laughter, and Will felt so weak with relief, he had to clutch the saddle horn or fall from his mount.
