This year is also the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I. My hero, Seth, was a witness to the terrible events of that war as an ambulance driver. Sara discovers his letters home in a trunk hidden in the attic of the island house she's renting.

“I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
Sara nodded. “Okay. We don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
He turned to her, bewildered. “Why are you so kind to me?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You know what I am, what I did. Most of it anyway. “
“That doesn’t change how I feel about you.”
“What?” He blinked at her as though she spoke a foreign language.
“Seth, did you ever realize how you spoke through your stories? You gave the world some of its most beautiful tales of love and redemption, of hope and courage. I knew when I read them you were someone special, because you wrote from the heart, Seth. All of it came from inside you.” She laid her hand on his chest over his heart. “From in here.”
He backed away. “You need to wake up now.”
“Not yet.” This seemed important to her, important he know she understood and didn’t judge.
“Go!” he snapped. “Wake up and leave me alone!” With that, he turned and strode down the beach, fading into the darkness.

About the book:
